Who Is Fancy (ft. Meghan Trainor & Ariana Grande) - "Boys Like You" [Full Audio + Review]
Is America ready to hear an openly gay singer explicitly sing about flirting with hot guys on the radio? (I seriously hope so...)
This is the debate that singer Who Is Fancy has opened. Who Is Fancy is apparently the new protegé of Republic Records. For the label has allowed him, or better yet, made possible for him, whose real name is Jake Hagood, to record a collaboration with pop divas Meghan Trainor and Ariana Grande. And this hasn't been an easy job to get done, for Ariana may be a labelmate of Who Is Fancy's but Meghan isn’t. She belongs to Epic and Sony Music.
The collaboration song titled “Boys Like You” was released today, November 23rd, online. This is the official first single from Who Is Fancy’s forthcoming debut album, which is scheduled for release in early 2016. In the song, Who Is Fancy, Meghan and Ariana sing about how they supposedly are nice kids who behave well and follow the rules but when a hot guy approaches they’re willing to break all those society rules they allegedly respect and try everything to fall in the arms of the boy they’re crazy about. “I got it mad for you / You make me feel like I'm dreaming” is exactly what they say in the pre-chorus. Is he really that hot? It must be! Because I don’t think Meghan or Ariana would fall for loser boy.
“Boys Like You” sounds very Doo-wop, and very Meghan Trainor too, actually. Is she the writer of this song? Or is “Boys Like You” a reject of her debut album? Hopefully someone solves this mystery that is killing me soon! But with the respect to the song itself, it sounds like a Top 40 hit. “Boys Like You” has a catchy chorus, a feel-good melody and production, and it’s very radio-friendly. If you don’t love it on the first listen, then keep listening please, because it’ll definitely grow on you!
