Was HAIM’s Cover Of Selena Gomez’ “Bad Liar” On “Live Lounge” Good Or Bad?
Oh boy.
HAIM were in the UK yesterday to do some promo for their just-released new album “Something to Tell You”. One of the gigs their label booked for them was an appearance on BBC Radio 1’s “Live Lounge” where they would perform a two-song acoustic set. The songs HAIM performed were their album single “Want You Back” and a “mystery cover”, which is a must-do for artists on this radio show. HAIM’s cover choice? Selena Gomez’s “Bad Liar”.
When I first found out that HAIM were going to perform “Bad Girl” as their cover for “Live Lounge” I thought to myself: “the girls are so going to slay this and will make everybody love their version of this song more than Selena’s original easily”. But then this happened. Please watch the full thing.
Are you in shock too?
At no time I want to question HAIM’s talent because they are an amazing group and I know Alana is a great vocalist, but my sister struggled a lot with “Bad Liar”. And it’s most likely not her fault. Selena’s song is not really a song, it’s more “fast talking” music, and this was a challenge for Alana. I’m sure she had little time to rehearse this and when rehearsing this song I’m sure it was at that time she realized “Bad Liar” didn’t work out for her and her singing style that well, but it was too late to change cover songs. So she was a big girl and went “live” with “Bad Girl” on “Live Lounge” and this was the result. A very uncomfortable to watch at times performance.
There’s no doubt this was the first and last time we’ll ever see HAIM do “Bad Liar”.
The girls’ “Want You Back” performance was flawless, though!
