Walk The Moon Wants You To "Shut Up and Dance!": Listen (Seth Meyers Performance Added)
Get familiar with alt-pop band Walk the Moon. Signed to RCA Records, this four-piece released three years ago the critically-acclaimed indie-rock summer hit “Anna Sun” - which Esquire magazine included on its 2011 "30 Summer Songs Every Man Should Listen To" list – when they were still independent, and the unexpected success the song had (Walk the Moon named the single "Anna Sun" after a college professor) opened them the doors to major label love. RCA Records gave Walk the Moon a ring, and just like that they were signed. In 2012, the band released their self-titled album; including of course “Anna Sun”, which RCA re-released and sent to radios.
Fast-forward to 2014, Walk the Moon are about to drop their second album. Watch out for it later this year. However, what we do have now is the first single. And it's another anthemic song; "Shut Up and Dance". Although Walk the Moon's indie-rock DNA is still present, there's no denying their new music sounds just a little bit more pop. Not hating at all, because I'm loving what I'm hearing, and if this tiny sound change make them playable on Top 40 radio, then it should be all happy news!
“She said shut up and dance with me! / This woman is my destiny”, sing Walk the Moon’s frontman Nicholas Petricca in the chorus of “Shut Up and Dance". The new youth anthem narrates the story of a man who is having fun on the dancefloor and crosses eyes with a girl. Instead of the man having the initiative, Walk the Moon’s song has a twist as it’s the girl who goes out for the man. “Shut up and dance with me!", the girl shouts to a shocked but happy guy.
