VIDEO: Prince Performs 8-Minute Medley on SNL
Prince broke the established rules for musical guests last night (Nov. 1) on “Saturday Night Live”. The rule is that a musical guest is to do two single-song performances, with them happening at far away times throughout the episode. What did Prince do (was allowed to do)? He performed an 8-minute medley!!! There was no second performance. He performed all of his “show” in a single performance featuring four songs in total: "Clouds", "Plectrumelectrum", "Marz" and "AnotherLove". 8 consecutive on-air minutes on SNL? Now that’s a first time, right? Either the show executives are huge fans of Prince, or he paid a lot of money to do this.
Legend Prince performed his SNL medley with the help of rock band 3RDEYEGIRL. He dropped his latest (solo) album “Art Official Age” last September 30th and on the same day he released a collaborative album with 3RDEYEGIRL titled “Plectrumelectrum”. Prince was on SNL yesterday to promote both albums. And they really need all the promotion they can. They haven’t sold that well AT ALL. If I were Warner Music’s CEO, I’d be extremely disappointed. I mean, releasing two Prince albums, and not one of them hit #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and only getting opening-week-sales of 50k and below? No bueno.
Sales aside, Prince did deliver a formidable mini-concert last night. He’s still got it!!!
