The XX Release New Single "On Hold" - Listen Now / New Album Coming In January 2017
English indie pop band The XX is back with new music.
They released a new single called "On Hold" today, November 10th. The song is available right now on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Amazon and more.
"On Hold" is confirmed to be the lead single from the band's forthcoming third studio album "I See You", which will arrive in stores on January 13th, 2017. When this LP arrives stores, it will become the official follow-up to The XX's last album; 2012's "Coexist". Talk about waiting long for a new album, huh?
After many years, close together, far apart, great highs, deep lows, heartache and healing, we are so happy to let you know we are releasing our 3rd album 'I See You' on January 13th 2017.
We realise these are uncertain times and we hope the joy and love we found making the record will find its way out into the world, in however small a way.
"On Hold" samples “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)” the 1981 hit by Hall and Oates, it is an electro-indie song that talks about a relationship going sour - where the man and the woman wonder what happened ("When and where did we go cold?"), and it features beautiful, pleasant vocals by the two The XX singers: Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim.
The song is under heavy criticism by The XX fans on Youtube. They say that the song sounds heavily Jamie XX-influenced. Jamie XX is one of the members of the band and he is also a producer. In 2015 he released his Gold-certified debut album "In Colour" in the UK. The fans say the song has "way too much Jamie XX beats" and "not enough guitar". Ever since his debut album, Jamie XX is famous for his electronica productions.
I personally like the song, true it doesn't sound like "Angels" (2012), but there's nothing wrong with a little bit of innovation, right? Plus, we still don't know how the other songs on their upcoming album are going to sound like. So chill.
