Taylor Swift & Mary J. Blige Perform "Family Affair" and "Doubt" Together at "1989 Tour" Night 2 In L.A
This was a bit unexpected but amazing nevertheless. You’d think Taylor Swift would only invite her ‘contemporaries’ as special guests on her “1989 World Tour” shows but the country/pop star doesn’t have any problem inviting older artists too!
Tay-Tay brought out the Queen of Hip-Hop and R&B, Ms. Mary J. Blige, on stage at her second consecutive show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles last night (August 22nd)
The 25-year-old and 44-year-old divas performed live renditions of the classic “Family Affair” and the song “Doubt” (included on Mary’s “The London Sessions” album). THAT’S RIGHT! 2 SONGS AND NOT JUST 1! Of course Taylor had to treat QUEEN MARY differently.
Taylor got her LIFE from “Family Affair”, and Mary sounded too incredible. It’s like her vocals haven’t aged at all. She still sounds like the original studio recording of “Family Affair” from back in the day. What a control! What a powerful live voice!
As for “Doubt”, although it was a bit of a random choice for second song to cover last night, as Mary has plenty of other popular hits she and Taylor could’ve performed together, it was very nice performance I must say. “Doubt” is such an emotional song and by far my favorite on “The London Sessions”.
By the way, the second Taylor started singing her part on the “Doubt” performance I thought: “oh my, this sounds like a song she could’ve recorded". She honestly made it sound mainstream with her voice!
