Stream Sevyn Streeter’s Potential Crossover Hit "Shoulda Been There" Featuring Boyfriend B.o.B Now! (Premiere)
Sevyn Streeter takes shots at her ex in the newly-premiered “Shoulda Been There”. The B.o.B-assisted laidback R&B/urban number is the title track and newest single from Chris Brown’s protégée’s forthcoming new project “Shoulda Been There Pt. 1 (The Prelude)”, which will be available on iTunes as of this Friday, July 17th. The looks-likes-an-album-but-it’s-not project, which will be mostly packed with interludes and only a couple of full songs, serves as the appetizer before the main course that it’s going to be Sevyn’s much-delayed full-length debut album “On The Verge”, out – allegedly – later this year via Atlantic Records.
“The last year and a half has been quite the roller coaster for me. Incredible highs and some dark lows. I wrote these songs when I wasn’t in the best space,” said Sevyn. “Like I ALWAYS say, ‘I don’t write the songs just for me.’ I believe this collection of music can help someone else. So instead of me pretending, denying, and being embarrassed about what I went through, I’m choosing to put these songs out. As a creative being, I just had to release this music before my debut album in order to really move on with my life! So……consider this new project Shoulda Been There Pt. 1 the prelude or an appetizer before the main course. I hope you enjoy and please know that more is on the way.”

You know Sevyn and rapper B.o.B are now girlfriend and boyfriend, right? If you had no idea, then… surprise! It was only a matter of time until these two collaborated on a song and Sevyn got lucky because their first duet ended up being one for one of her projects. “Shoulda Been There” is all about Sevyn slamming her ex for not treating her the way she deserved and not being by her side when it was important. What was the consequence of that? That another boy stole Sevyn’s heart; in this case, B.o.B. In his rap verse, Bobby Ray thanks Sevyn’s ex for allowing him to be with Sevyn as he was a dumbass for missing on a good thing and losing one amazing girl like Sevyn is.
“Shoulda Been There” is perfection and doesn’t it sound like it could be a crossover hit for Sevyn? I totally see Top 40 radios playing this. Best part of the song? The chorus, obviously. Sevyn won me the second I heard it. I started rocking immediately! I wanna be jamming to this song with her at the club ASAP!
