Single Review: Ne-Yo - "Another Love Song" / Are We In 2017, Right?
Now that Ne-Yo has a job again, as a judge on Jennifer Lopez’s new show for NBC, “World of Dance”, the R&B singer is back at releasing music. He’s aligned the release of a new single called “Another Love Song” to coincide with the premiere of the dancing show last night (May 30). Ne-Yo is no fool. He knew exactly what he was doing.
“Another Love Song”, co-written with Henry Walter and Lukasz Gottwald, hears Ne-Yo singing with his signature crooner vocals over a groovy, clapping production with dance-funk flair. “Another Love Song” is very feel-good, it’s sing-alongey, and it’s not bad for being the first product after a two-year music hiatus. But although it’s cute, I just don’t think “Another Love Song” has what it takes to chart in 2017. For it sounds so 2014. A “cute” comeback “track” it is, though. But just that.
Ne-Yo is said to be currently working on his seventh studio album. If “World of Dance” is a big hit, no doubt he will rush the recording of the album and perform the “real lead single” (because “Another Love Song” can’t be it) at the live finale this summer.
