Sam Smith raises his voice in favor of worldwide recognition of gay marriage in the newly-premiered music video for “Lay Me Down”. The soulful song has been picked as the new US single from “In the Lonely Hour”, it was sent to radios this week and now before working week is over Sam drops the full music video via VEVO (didn’t expect it to arrive this soon!).

That’s totally what I understood from the video.
The scenes where people are dressed in black and Sam Smith is alone at the altar portrays the current scenario where gay people is unable to get married in a large number of countries, whereas the later joyful scenes - where Sam's friends are losing it in excitement - shows the happiness that will signify to a gay person that he is able to marry the man he loves without any legal hurdle. See? No harm.
