Pia Mia Jumps On The Indie-EDM Bandwagon With New Single “Touch”: Listen In Full [Review]
I have to say that I ended up liking Pia Mia’s “Do It Again”. The mix of 50% pop and 50% urban music worked out really well for her and I have to recognize it. And with the over 100 million views the music video has, therefore boasting a VEVO Certified status, “Do It Again” surely performed way better than what Interscope Records had foreseen.
Today, though, October 29th, Kylie Jenner’s BFF drops a new single. This is titled “Touch”, and this will also appear on Pia Mia’s forthcoming debut album that will be released in early 2016.
“Touch”, whose length is of just over 3 minutes long, sounds like a failed attempt of imitating Jack U’s hit “Where Are U Now” / Justin Bieber’s “What Do You Mean”. It’s just impossible to deny that that predominant beat break on “Touch” disrespects the creativity of producer Skrillex. Moreover, what’s Pia Mia doing recording indie-EDM music now? At the beginning of this blog post I praised the success of her pop-urban sound that she achieved with “Do It Again”, and clearly this was supposed to be the road that she had to continue on, so this sudden change of genre leaves me totally in shock. Does Pia Mia think indie-EDM is the future and she thought she had to adapt before it was too late or what? Evidently I can see now that Pia Mia is a follower and not a leader. She should have continued with the sound she debuted with “Do It Again” and not made this drastic change.

Even though I like the sexually-charged but pretty in the end message, and once again Pia Mia proves how incredible her vocals are in a song of her property, “Touch” just doesn’t captivate me, and I think it’s a bad decision for new single (so mad!). I was expecting the “Do It Again” follow-up to be something of the same level or superior. “Touch” is just a little bit “whatever”. I’m just not crazy about it, it doesn’t move me, and clearly I’m not going to be streaming “Touch” much in the next few days. “Touch” just lacks of all the energy and the excitement of “Do It Again”. Pia Mia must’ve played it safe for the follow-up.
Earlier this month, Pia Mia shot the “Touch” music video in L.A. We’ll see if the MV makes me change my mind, but I really doubt it. Nevertheless, I still have faith on Pia’s talent. Maybe the next single after “Touch” will see her redeeming herself.
Hit or Miss?
