Not Even Adam Levine’s Shirtless Moment Saved Maroon 5’s 2019 Super Bowl Halftime Show From Being A Snoozefest: Full Performance Video
And Maroon 5 performed the halftime show of the Super Bowl 2019.
The expectations for this halftime show were rather low and the people thought this were not wrong. It was pretty much a snoozefest. Just like Coldplay, this thing that the NFL asks a band to perform at the Super Bowl is proving to be a total mistake. After watching amazing shows like the ones Madonna, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga or Beyoncé put on in recent years, Maroon 5’s yesterday looked like Halftime Show Lite. There was no real excitement. And that’s key for a successful Halftime Show. The only interesting and energetic part occurred with the guests. Travis Scott sent everyone into frenzy with “Sicko Mode” and Big Boi made the Atlanta hip-hop scene proud with his “The Way You Move” performance. This made me think again that the NFL should have allowed a hip hop-only halftime show featuring several rappers where the majority were ATL-born. Can you imagine how amazing would that have been? Now that would have been a SHOW. But of course the NFL people were not going to allow it, most especially while the Colin Kaepernick still continued. Many African-American artists on a same stage increase the possibilities of someone taking a knee, some NFL executive must’ve thought.
In this halftime shoe performance, Maroon 5 played the following setlist: “Harder To Breathe”, “This Love”, “Girls Like You”, “She Will Be Loved”, “Sugar” and “Moves Like Jagger”. It was a good setlist but what wasn’t good was Adam Levine’s vocals. I don’t know if he was nervous, if his earpiece wasn’t properly working or if Adam isn’t just the best liver singer in the world but poor thing, even though he tried and tried, was having a very difficult time hitting the notes right.
The whole performance was rather a snoozefest. There was no big entrance and it was like watching any other Maroon 5 concert with the exception that this time they had a lot of fire effects behind them. Cardi B and Christina Aguilera’s absences in their respective collaborations furthermore ruined this halftime show. The only moment where the show was almost saved, but ultimately it was too late, was when Adam Levine removed his tank top to perform the last song of the setlist, “Moves Like Jagger”. Watching a gorgeous man like Adam move like Jagger shirtless and with that kind of hot body puts anyone in a good mood. I swear to you I almost though: “What a great halftime show”. But I quickly snapped out of my dream and stopped drooling and fairly taking into account the full show, and even though I enjoyed that shirtless moment, not even that could save this bland halftime show. It also didn’t work in the halftime time show’s favor that when I saw Adam Levine semi-naked with his nipples exposed I immediately remembered Janet Jackson and how viciously she was destroyed publicly for accidentally exposing one of her nipples. Do you see the injustice? Adam Levine can do it, not showing just one but his two nipples voluntarily and nothing occurs, but Janet shows one by accident and she’s stoned by the general public? So unfair. It shouldn’t even matter at all. It’s a damn nipple!
