New Song: Carly Rae Jepsen (ft. Nicki Minaj) - 'Tonight I'm Getting Over You' (Remix)
Her manager Scooter Braun kind of hinted this with a tweet that read, "@carlyraejepsen @NICKIMINAJ exciting stuff", but I refused to believe it. Carly Rae Jepsen and Nicki Minaj on a same song?. Like, for real?. So weird. In any case, my worst fears have come true as it's just been revealed that raptress Nicki Minaj is the 'surprise guest' on the official remix to the Canadian's pop singer's newest single "Tonight I'm Getting Over You".
Produced by Max Martin, "Tonight I'm Getting Over You" is the third single, and one of absolute favorites on Carly's major label debut LP "Kiss". It just screamed 'single' to me from the first play. It's sad to see though how this amazing dance-pop song isn't connecting with the US audience. "Tonight I'm Getting Over You" hasn't really scored a great charting anywhere since being released earlier in 2013. Carly's promoted it big time, but nothing.
So when Scooter Braun posted that tweet, I first thought, a brand new song?, then I said, nah, probably just a remix. Yet, I think Scooter or the decision-making people at Carly's label got it wrong with Nicki. To me, and that's what I think, Nicki Minaj isn't as 'relevant' right now as she was before. Her latest singles haven't been smash hits, and having her as a 'featured artist' on your song won't secure a hit anymore IMO. And I believe that's what's gonna happen to this "Tonight I'm Getting Over You" remix. It might make the single re-appear on US iTunes' Top 100 Songs Chart, but it will decline rather quickly. Sad but true. I'm mad though at how "Kiss" didn't perform as expected. It's such a flawless pop album! Will Carly Rae Jepsen forever be a one-hit wonder?. I'm kind worrying 'bout this now....
