New Music: Mikky Ekko - "Smile" [Premiere / Review]
Remember Mikky Ekko, right? He is the writer of the Rihanna monster hit "Stay" - from the 2012 album "Unapologetic". Mikky signed to RCA Records after the Rihanna single exploded on the charts, and has ever since been working on his debut album. Last year's summer he dropped his first RCA single called "Kids". Although "Kids" wasn't a chart success, it at least was proof Mikky was working on new music. Now one whole year later, the singer-songwriter from Luisiana drops a new single, and this time it sounds like the official first single from his forthcoming RCA Records full-length debut.
"Smile" single review
The new Mikky Ekko single is called "Smile", it lasts 3:28 minutes, and it was released on August 15th on iTunes. Is Mikky trying to pull off his own "Happy"? Because that's the first thing that came to my mind when I started listening to "Smile". Not hating, but this is the perfect time to pay Pharrell again respect. He's inspired so many people! And Mikky Ekko is one of those. His song "Smile" is a positive indie-rock song (although it has potential for Top 40 radio airplay) about not giving up because tomorrow may bring better things for you. Besides the awesome production, and his vocals, Mikky also blesses us with "la la la" bridges after each chorus. Very solid single, I say!
