New Music: Alex & Sierra - "Just Kids" [Premiere / Review]

alex and sierra in concert

Real life couple, and winners of the third and last season of “X Factor USA”, pop duo Alex and Sierra premiered via SoundCloud on Monday, August 4th, a brand new track from their forthcoming full-length debut album "It's About Us", which will be dropping in stores on October 7th via Columbia Records. The song is called "Just Kids", and it’s seventh track on the finalised tracklisting of "It's About Us". The newly-premiered song is a pretty big surprise as it sounds like nothing we’ve heard from Alex & Sierra before.

"Just Kids" song review

Before reviewing this song, did you see that “Just Kids” was uploaded on SoundCloud 14 days ago? (Go to the SoundCloud page of the song clicking on the embed below). Alex and Sierra could have already uploaded all the tracks from "It's About Us" on SoundCloud (setting them to private), and we had no idea!

"Just Kids" is Alex and Sierra's first all-pop song. You know how "Scarecrow" and "Little Do You Know" have that folk-y pop edge? Well, there's nothing folk about "Just Kids" is an anthem for the youth (“Light it up in the darkest hour / Our dreams only getting louder”, sings Alex in the first verse), and aside the constant guitar melody, there is a bit of a synth-pop beat when Sierra unleashes the hooks. Doesn’t "Just Kids" sound amazing? It’s a very CUTE song, probably not single material, but definitely stellar album track material.
