Most Popular Songs of 2013 (Overview)
It’s December, and it’s time to look back and find out what were the biggest songs, and therefore the most-searched lyrics of 2013 on our website. Catch our final chart below.
This as other years (2012) has seen; a) the return of major pop and rap artists with new albums, such as; Miley Cyrus, One Direction, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake or Eminem, b) artists milking their 2012-released albums to the extreme with new singles released left and right such as; Taylor Swift, Rihanna or Bruno Mars, and c) the rise of brand new artists such is the case of Ariana Grande, who many refer as the "next big thing".
Alongside the impressive album sales of Justin Timberlake and Eminem, 2013 will undoubtedly be the happiest year in Miley Cyrus' career. The former Hannah Montana finally broke free from her Disney chains, signed with RCA Records, and released the album (“Bangerz”) she always envisioned. She learned controversy was a money-maker, and she had no problem exploiting it. The lyrics of “We Can’t Stop”, the shocking "grinding" moment with Robin Thicke at the VMAs, the "Wrecking Ball" all-nude music video, or the smoking marijuana bit at the EMAs, it was all part of Miley’s liberation, and her clever ways to be on every headline, and keep her sales going strong.
Our top 50 chart below lists the most searched for lyrics on Directlyrics. The Top 10 proves Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake are still chart-slayers with two songs each on the high part of the chart, but it’s Miley’s “We Can’t Stop” in the end which was the honor to be proclaimed the most popular song of 2013.
