Matt of The 1975 Makes Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” His Own On BBC “Live Lounge”: Must-Listen!
I really wasn’t expecting much from The 1975’s “Live Lounge” appearance today (Jan. 11) but when I read a tweet on BBC Radio 1’s timeline earlier this morning that said that the British band would be covering Justin Bieber’s “Sorry”, I said to myself: “ok, I will this give a try”. So I heard The 1975’s entire acoustic set on the radio and I was really impressed. Their acoustic version of their latest single “The Sound”, taken from their upcoming album “I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It” (out Feb. 26), may have been pretty standard, nothing ground-breaking (they were alright, though, don’t get me wrong), but they truly killed it and blew my mind with their “Sorry” cover – the hit from Justin Bieber’s “Purpose” album. I didn’t expect/foresee this version, and I didn’t know The 1975’s frontman Matthew Healy had this “soul” in him.
First, let’s find out why the band picked this song as their mandatory cover on BBC Radio 1’s “Live Lounge” today.

Mmmm…okay! Reasons aside, it’s really all eyes on the performance itself. The way they manipulated the original “Sorry” production DJ-style, the saxophone incorporation, the jazzy feeling of this cover, and the super soulful vocals by Matt…oh my!...this was truly a amazing. If I were them, I would record this version in the studio and release it. It’s that good. This is what I call making a song your own!
Thoughts?
