Lupe Fiasco’s sixth studio album “DROGAS Light” has just arrived in stores. And if you haven’t been following the drama surrounding this LP, let me give you a quick recap: Lupe premiered a new song called “N.E.R.D” last December. The song contained the lyric: “Artists gettin’ robbed for their publishing / By dirty Jewish execs who think that it’s alms from the covenant”. Blogs and social media slammed Lupe Fiasco for being an alleged anti-semite. He then got angry and announced “DROGAS Light” was cancelled. However, at the end of December, he blatantly and suddenly contradicted himself by tweeting that “DROGAS Light” was still a go and that February 2017 would be the month of its official release. Like, what the hell? A "big mess" to be honest but YAY at the album getting released. That’s what most concerned fans in the end. And Lupe’s already cleared that he is no anti-semitic person.
“DROGAS Light” is made of 14 tracks in total and plenty of collaborations are featured. There are duets with the likes of Ty Dolla $ign, Bianca Sings, Gizzle, Rondon, Simon Sayz, Salim, among others.
Lupe’s last album, 2015’s “Tetsuo & Youth”, flopped in its first week only selling 42,000 copies in total and peaking at number 14 on the Billboard 200. Therefore, we don’t think Mr. Fiasco will have any issue beating those first-week sales figures with “DROGAS Light”. Especially now that he is free from Atlantic Records - who, according to Lupe, were to blame for the poor performance of “Tetsuo & Youth”.
