Leona Lewis Drops New Song “Essence of Me” and It’s An Empowering Ballad, But Is It Something “Fresh”? Listen Now!
A new Leona Lewis song from her upcoming fourth studio album “I Am” premiered on BBC Radio 1 – the main UK radio - earlier on Sunday, June 14th.
Titled “Essence of Me”, this soaring ballad hears the British chanteuse empowering herself to be free for once and for all. “Onto new horizons / This is who I am”, sings a ready-for-what’s-to-come Leona.
Although I am liking this synth pop-influenced vulnerable new track because of LeLew’s beautiful vocals, and the somewhat catchy chorus (writers have to stop resorting to repeating vowels or syllables to make a catchy chorus, though. It’s becoming too lazy), I am not entirely happy. For Leona promised a new sound for album #4, that “I Am” was going to at last be at last her first honest album, and that summing up fans should expect a big surprise, but I ain’t surprised and that’s where my tiny disappointment rests. “Essence of Me” simply sounds way too similar to her old material.
In any case, I WAS blown away by lead single “Fire Under My Feet” so I’m definitely still perched for her upcoming album.
