Kelly Rowland, Kelly Clarkson, Missy Elliott & MORE Sing “This Is For My Girls” - A Michelle Obama Idea: LISTEN
It’s been a long time since we had a song for a good cause featuring various artists out. It was about time, huh?
First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, is promoting a new campaign of the US government called “#62MillionGirls” whose main purpose is to “shed light on 62 million girls around the world who are denied the right to an education.” To give this campaign more visibility, she had the great idea of recording an anthem song and ask a bunch of relevant female singers to be the performers.
So who made the cut? Missy Elliott, Chloe & Halle, Zendaya, Janelle Monae, Kelly Clarkson, Kelly Rowland, Lea Michelle and Jadagrace. Say what!? Michelle Obama didn’t invite Fifth Harmony? Didn’t she get the memo that the girl group released a single, “Boss”, inspire by her!?
So honored to be a part of this movement w/ other amazing women for @FLOTUS #62MillionGirls! #LetGirlsLearn https://t.co/VRZODrIckI

The anthem of the “#62MillionGirls” campaign is titled “This Is For My Girls” and it is an upbeat song (written by Dianne Warren), filled with drums and horns (very Amerie style circa her Rich Harrison days), where the guest stars sing about getting girls all around the world to fight to accomplish their dreams, and let their voices be heard always.
Former Destiny’s Child’s star Kelly Rowland gets a little bit more of spotlight in “This Is For My Girls” as she is in charge of singing the chorus.
