Got to give it up to Katy Perry. This is the second best decision she’s made this “Witness” era (the first being quickly killing the flop “Bon Appetit” and replacing it with “Swish Swish” as single). Katy just premiered the official lyric video for “Swish Swish” on VEVO and the lyric video stars none other than Brazilian GIF/MEME queen Gretchen (a 58-year-old singer). WHO? You probably don’t know her by name but just wait till you watch the actual lyric video. You’ll recognize her immediately. You’ve probably seen her in a ton of GIFs/MEMEs on the Internet for the past year or so. She is Gretchen!

The lyric video for “Swish Swish” sees queen Gretchen and a handful of backup dancers letting the infectious clubby beat of “Swish Swish” take control of their bodies. Gretchen will provide plenty of hilarious moments and GIF/MEME-worthy moments too of course.

This Gretchen inclusion in the “Swish Swish” lyric video was evidently made for two reasons. Reason 1) Katy is a fan of Gretchen’s GIFs/MEMEs and she paid good money for her team to locate her and hire her for this lyric video so she could meet her and she could have her as part of her videography. Reason 2) Katy knows Brazilian pop culture fans are hardcore and she’s counting on the Gretchen appearance in her “Swish Swish” lyric video to make Brazilians get this lyric video to break a 24 hour VEVO record or break a record for the most viewed lyric video ever. And if there’s one “fanbase” to be able to do that, that’s the Brazilian people no doubt.

I live for “Swish Swish”, I lived for this both hilarious and iconic lyric video, I lived for everything Gretchen did in it, and I’m actually destroying the repeat button right now. The VEVO record is totally possible!
