Jhené Aiko Premieres “Maniac” Music Video: Watch
Jhené Aiko took to YouTube last night to unveil the music video for her latest single “Maniac”, a song that is said to appear on the Californian singer’s much-anticipated second studio album (due in stores for sur later in 2017 via Def Jam).
Directed by Jhené alongside Topshelf Junior, the video for “Maniac” features one of the most incredible and honest concepts I’ve ever seen. Read the music video’s explanation directly from Ms. Aiko’s own mouth, thanks to Rolling Stone, below:
"I learned that lots of women were admitted for absurd reasons, including being 'nymphomaniacs' and were basically tortured in the name of treatment," Aiko says. "Ironically, I released 'Maniac' at a time where I had recently been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, so my interest in the research was genuine. I think we all have some sort of imbalance, but I also believe that we can overcome it. I find my balance through creating art. The 'Maniac' visual is the story of a mental patient who finds her own cure."
Wow.
Jhené’s not only one tough woman for dealing with such a complicated life problem like bipolar disorder, but she’s also kind of a hero to all those people out there who have suffered cruelty from people or so-called "experts" that didn’t or didn’t WANT to understand their various mental disorders.
