Jessie J, Nicole Scherzinger & Ella Eyre Perform at 2014 MOBO Awards: Watch
The 2014 MOBO Awards saw last night (Oct. 22) Sam Smith win in 3 of main categories (“Best Song”, “Best Male Act”, and “Best Album”) and Jessie J, Nicole Scherzinger and Ella Eyre bring the house down with sensational live performances. That could the most perfect summary of the 2014 edition of the “Music of Black Origin” awards held at the SSE Arena, Wembley in London.
Jessie J killed it vocally, as usual, with a medley of "Bang Bang" and “Burnin' Up". She not only served pure vocals, though, you also served plenty of BODY. During the “Burnin Up’ performance the rap bridge could at last be heard but it wasn't 2 Chainz rapping it but Kid Ink! So random, huh? And big WTF at the crowd at the SSE Arena going crazy for Kid Ink as if he was Drake or something. Maybe they thought it was 2 Chainz? (lol).
Nicole Scherzinger delivered a solid live performance of her current UK single “On the Rocks”. I’m still shaking my head in disbelief at her releasing “On the Rocks” as her second single for the UK and not the stunning “Run”…but whatever. She did sing “On the Rocks” well at the 2014 MOBO Awards, though, and made it sound pretty. In essence, “On the Rocks” is a tough song to sing ALL LIVE so the use of playback in the chorus was more understandable. I'd also like to praise Nicole's natural relaxed audience interaction. It was a shame the audience at the SSE Arena was dead, though. When asked to “move your hands like this” by Nicole towards the end of the song, only 10 people followed the instructions!
My dear Ella Eyre, who won “Best Newcomer”, performed her incredibly-amazing latest single "Comeback" last night. Everything about her performance was exceptional. From the “screen” cloth, her latex outfit to her stage strutting. Well, it was 99% exceptional actually. Ella needs to FIRE those back-up singers ASAP. Watch her performance, put attention in the chorus, and you'll understand why.
