Icona Pop Return Better Than Ever With BEAST New Single "Someone Who Can Dance" [Full Audio + Review]
Oh lord, Icona Pop is back for real this time. What kind of unexpected life-giving anthem!?
The Swedish female duo just released to the market the best song they’ve recorded after their breakthrough hit “I Love It”.
It’s called “Someone Who Can Dance”, and it is available on all digital and streaming platforms as of today, February 25th. The single will appear on Icona Pop’s second international album, due in stores later this year via Atlantic Records.
The song is so iconic (pun intended) in all aspects. From the incredible energetic electro-pop, and at the same time a bit grunge-y, retro, production, Icona Pop’s attitude/swagger throughout the entire song, the care-free message of the song - which youngsters will find super relatable I’m sure, to Icona Pop’s catchy signature chant-y chorus…OMG! This is a beast of a party track. It is giving me serious European rave party vibes with a mainstream edge.
But above all, it really is the message of the song that is captivating, and very believable too. There are times when you’re in the club and you don’t want to hook up with people, you just want to throw the stress away and dance really hard to the music with a partner in crime, and that partner needs to be someone who can dance as sick as you, not someone who just wants to talk.
By the way, there is a remix version of “Someone Who Can Dance”, which apparently is a bit improvised as it is not for sale, that features fellow Sweden ladies Zara Larsson and Elliphant. All girls performed together this remix version on the Swedish Grammys last night. And O to the M-G, Elliphant’s “island” singing was everything!
BRAVO to Icona Pop for finally innovating. Their essence may still be in “Someone Who Can Dance” but the song definitely sounds unlike anything they’ve done in the past. It was already a matter of survival for them really. All of their latest singles have either underperformed or ended up not reaching one fifth of what "I Love It" did, therefore they were in serious need to bring something new and fresh to the table already.
Hit or Miss?
