Exclusive Song Premiere: Johnnie Mikel - “Friday Night”
Johnnie Mikel likes to craft pop tunes that will get you moving, and he’s succeeded again with “Friday Night”, his new single. Johnnie Mikel is a young singer-songwriter originally from Kentucky, now residing in between Nashville and Los Angeles, who last year dazzled pop lovers with the Top 40 hit “Come With Me” and just last month with his debut EP “Night of Your Life”. But just an EP in 2018 clearly wasn’t enough for Johnnie nor was it for his fans. That’s why he’s planning on releasing much more music throughout the rest of the year. And “Friday Night” is the first offering from the fresh batch that’s coming way.

Despite Johnnie’s latest releases happening not too long ago, he's found the time and inspiration to make his sound evolve in this short period of time. He’s abandoned electro-pop music momentarily to embrace a slicker dance-meets-pop-meets-R&B sound. That’s what the groovy “Friday Night” is all about. He explained it very well to us: “When writing Friday Night, I wanted to do a huge pop track with a subtle 90’s R&B feel. I really look up to artists like Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars, so I wanted to bring my artistry into that style for the song”. “Friday Night” is giving me cousin of Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop The Feeling!” vibes and that’s one lucky family to be part of. As for the message of the song, Johnnie told us: “Lyrically, it’s about having the best night ever with people you love. It’s the perfect party track!”. Its title pretty much gave it away but indeed “Friday Night” is a feel-good jam about having the time of your life, and falling love – which is an element perfectly relatable to “having the time of your life”.
