Cracking America This Time? 2NE1’s CL Drops Weed Anthem “Lifted”: Listen & Watch!
Behold the return of South Korean singer CL with brand new music in another attempt to crack the US market. The former (?) - are they seriously coming back? - star of K-Pop girl group 2NE1 released today (Aug. 18) a new single titled “Lifted” which she world premiered by way of an official music video (watch below) unveiled on her YouTube page.
Truth is I was expecting another “Hello Bitches” but surprisingly CL is giving us something completely different with this new single “Lifted”. For starters, the song is entirely in English language - as there is NO trace of Korean whatsoever. And also, “Lifted” is so American radio-friendly. I’m not kidding. “Lifted” has a summery sound, a carefree and laid-back vibe, and also a little bit of reggae influence!
Can’t figure out what the song could be about from the title? Here’s some help: Just change the word “Lifted” for “High”. Better? CL is serving her first drugs anthem! Because weed doesn’t always have to be bad, right? Look at all the things it’s making CL do in the music video.
And talking about the video, what an amazing production value it has! American artists, or at least American artists just commencing in the US market similarly to CL, could only dream of ever getting a budget like this for a music video!
I’m really loving this - except for that sordid scene where CL grinds on those two men alone by the river. But anyway, all in all, pretty dope video, AND SONG!
"Lifted" is lifted from an upcoming EP from CL that is expected to be released later this year in America. "Lifted" is being treated by CL's team as her "first proper US single".
