Austin Mahone To Have One Last Chance Before Being Dropped? Performs Alleged Next Radio Single “Put It On Me” With Sage The Gemini LIVE!
It looks like there’s movement in Austin Mahone’s camp.
Not long ago we wrote about the 19-year-old singer, making posts about his latest free song releases through SoundCloud and his random music video premieres on YouTube. In those posts we wondered about if he was still signed to Republic/Cash Money - for almost a year and half after the release of his latest EP “The Secret” he was yet to put out his full-length debut album. We wondered if had been secretly fired and if he was trying to pursue a career as an independent artist now, but it seems that Austin Mahone is still signed and will have one last shot before tasting misery.
His latest ‘buzz’ single “Put It On Me” (available for free download here) - featuring Jordin Sparks’ rapper boyfriend Sage the Gemini - that he released in October is undoubtedly the best song he has released in a long time. “Put It On Me” boasts a really nice urban-pop sound and I believed at the time it premiered that with adequate promotion it could enjoy some moderate success on the charts and radio. However, since the last we heard about this buzz single was that it got its (cheap) music video premiered on YouTube, I was under the impression Austin was going to treat “Put It On Me” just like his other free songs, that is, to let them die into oblivion. However, I was majorly surprised when Austin Mahone uploaded a video on his YouTube channel this week featuring footage of a recent performance he did of “Put It On Me” WITH Sage the Gemini at some radio concert in San Jose, California. My first reaction was that either A) Sage was coincidentally in town and he had no issue coming to perform with Austin when he called him or B) that “Put It On Me” is definitely about to be officially released as single and that Republic Records (Austin and Sage are labelmates!) was the one behind making this live performance featuring both artists for the first time possible and that they asked Austin to upload a video of this performance on YouTube to increase the hype for this upcoming official single of his. For the sake of his career, I hope it’s option B. Is the return of Austin Mahone to Top 40 radio imminent? Will this single save his career?
Girls in the arena seen in the video below seemed to be loving “Put It On Me”, so clearly releasing it as an official single wouldn’t be a crazy idea. Truth is that perhaps “Put It On Me” was always meant to be an official single and we didn’t know. I just couldn’t believe him if Austin told me he recorded a collaboration with freaking SAGE THE GEMINI just for fun and to give it to fans for free. That’d be wack.
By the way , I feel a bit bad for Austin, for he, when he started his career, was believed to be the next Justin Bieber, but now his career has reached such a low point that he is betting the only contract he’ll ever have with a major label on a miracle single.
