Aerosmith, Carly Rae Jepsen & Psy Perform at 2013 Social Star Awards In Singapore
The first edition of the 'Social Star Awards' - whose motto is 'the annual global celebration and recognition of the superstars of social media' - was held at the luxurious Marina Bay Sands hotel in Singapore city on May 23. The inaugural ceremony featured a quite bizarre line-up of live performers that included legendary rock band Aerosmith (I didn't know they were into 'social media'), one-hit wonder Carly Rae Jepsen, and K-pop sensation Psy (who did NOT attend the 2013 Cannes Festival, just to be clear, lol). Check out photos of them at the black carpet above, and watch them perform live below.
Oh my god. Carly Rae Jepsen sounded like a hyena last night! It was so bad. I'm kind of realizing now that she should stick as a 'studio' artist only. The Canadian pop singer performed for her Singaporean fans; "Tonight I'm Getting Over You" (whose remix with Nicki Minaj passed completely unnoticed), and "Call Me Maybe". Psy lip-synched a lot his performances of "Gentleman" and "Gangnam Style" but put on an entertaining spectacle nonetheless, and finally, American rock 'n roll band Aerosmith brought the house down with vibrant a medley of hits that featured; "Crying", "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" and "Walk This Way". Steven Tyler and Co. were the best of the night, hands down! I don't see much future to these 'Social Star Awards' though, lol. Oh, and only if you care, the big winners of the premier edition were Justin Bieber and One Direction. Surprised?.
