World Premiere: Gwen Stefani - "Misery" [Full Audio + Review]

Singer Gwen Stefani releases a new song from her forthcoming third solo album “This Is What The Truth Feels Like…”, due in stores on March 18th via Interscope Records, today (March 10). The new track is titled “Misery” and you can get it for “free” if you pre-order Gwen’s album at this precise moment on iTunes (alternatively, you can just stream it on Spotify below).

By the way, “Misery” ain’t no ordinary album track. This song was considered by Gwen’s label up until recently as a candidate for second single, following “Used To Love You”, from “This Is What The Truth Feels Like…”. However, after last-minute decisions, Interscope chose “Make Me Like You” instead as second single (maybe pressured by Target?). Right now, “Misery” ain’t the “NEW” single yet - so “Make Me Like You” haters, hold it right there! As of this post, “Misery” is nothing more than a mere countdown promo single.

As Gwen herself revealed in an interview, “Misery” was co-written by Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter (Justin Bieber’s “Sorry”) and produced by J.R Rotem. On the theme of the song, Gwen called “Misery”: “a very happy song”.

"So put me out of my misery, hurry up come see me", sings Gwen in the chorus of her new song. The production is quite simplistic, and kind of electronic music meets island. I'm liking the acapella feel of it.

So yea, “Misery” sounds great. Single-worthy? Sure! I now totally understand Interscope considering this as second single. HOWEVER, I am more of a fan of “Make Me Like You”, and I think Gwen shouldn’t throw the towel just yet with this single. She should keep promoting it because who knows if “Make Me Like You” ends up becoming a late-bloomer as “Used To Love You”? I’m ok with “Misery” being the next/third single, but IN DUE TIME!

Hit or Miss?
