World Premiere: Gwen Stefani - "Baby Don't Lie" [Full Audio]
Gwen Stefani’s new solo song is here! The No Doubt star’s lead single from her forthcoming yet-untitled third solo album; “Baby Don’t Lie”, was scheduled to be released on iTunes on Sunday midnight (Oct. 19) and sent to US radios the following day but a sneaky "leaker" leaked the full audio of “Baby Don’t Lie” today, Saturday (Oct. 18) - one full day ahead of the fixed scheduled. Get your first listen below!!
“Baby Don’t Lie” was written by Gwen Stefani in collaboration with Noel Zancanella, Benny Blanco and OneRepublic’s frontman Ryan Tedder. She filmed the video for the new single in late-September in L.A with Sophie Muller sitting on the director's seat.
Gwen’s third studio album is expected to drop in early 2015 via Interscope Records.
"Baby Don't Lie" song review
This is definitely giving me "Princess of China" vibes. Gwen's new single also sounds to me like a darker version of Maroon 5's "Maps". Is this lead single material, though?
So, at first, I was like; "ok song, but weak lead single", but now I'm like; "I'm kind of digging it!". If you’re on the fence about Gwen Stefani’s new single “Baby Don't Lie", I'd recommend you to don’t give up on it on the first listen but give it a few more spins throughout the day. Place your iPhone on your speaker dock and blast “Baby Don't Lie" on full volume! I can bet you that you’re going to end up with the hook “baby don’t, baby don’t liiiie” stuck in your head.
So this is definitely a grower. Still, does “Baby Don't Lie" sound like Hot 100 #1 material? I’d say it’ll be very difficult for Gwen’s new single to achieve that feat, but with the right promotion - and hopefully a radio deal - I think it could be a Top 15 hit on the Hot 100 and Top 10 on Pop radio. “Baby Don't Lie" is in my opinion Gwen’s second best first single after “What You Waiting For” and above “Wind It Up”.
“Baby Don't Lie" is a pop song with rock and reggae influences and a few synth beats. Gwen asks her boyfriend in it to please stop lying to her face ‘cause that’s not only hurting her but also their relationship. “Don’t wanna cry no longer", she says. My favorite parts of “Baby Don't Lie" are the following in ascending order: 3). verses, 2). bridge and 1). that very cool and very Gwen reggae-esque hook!
Hit or Miss?
Update: Gwen just shared the official cover art for "Baby Don't Lie"!
