World Premiere: Fifth Harmony - "The Life" [Full Audio + Review]

fifth harmony the life

The Fifth Harmony ladies released by surprise today, March 25th, the very first countdown single from their forthcoming second studio album “7/27”, which Epic Records will release across the entire world this May 20th.

The song in question is called “The Life”, it is track number #3 on the disc, and it lasts three minutes and twenty seconds.

Is the song better than lead single “Work From Home”? Of course not, because then Fifth Harmony wouldn’t have released it so close after sending “Work From Home” to radio. They’re not that dumb!

Is “The Life” “future single” material then? That it ain’t either. “The Life”, a synth-pop/EDM record where the teen ladies of 5H talk about the great lives that they get to live now that they’re rich (“No stress baby you can find us / Getting down on a beach in Dubai”), has a really infectious instrumental, the pre-hook/hook are very catchy (are they sampling some other artist’s song? I swear that that robotic pre-hook sound super familiar!), and it’s very “easy on the ear”. HOWEVER, “The Life” is clearly just a “nice album track” in my opinion. Although it’s a really nice tune, it lacks “major hit” power. Plus, although I like it, it really sounds like a step back for Fifth Harmony career evolution-wise. BUT BIG YEY at Lauren finally getting a verse! (well, she shares the first verse actually with Camila, but it’s something!).

By the way, why does Camila LIE in the song? “We the best in the biz / Breaking up ain't a chance”, she sings in a verse. Didn't she read this interview?

Hit or Miss?
