World Premiere: Charli XCX - "After the Afterparty": Full Audio + Review

charlie xcx after the afterparty

At last the return of British singer Charli XCX is official. The “Boom Clap” star premiered on Spotify today (Oct. 27) her brand new single called “After the Afterparty”, which features American rapper Lil Yachty. This song, which besides being the official lead single from Charli XCX’s upcoming third studio album, is also the theme music of Freeform’s 2016 "13 Nights of Halloween” schedule, will be out on iTunes for purchase starting tomorrow, October 28th.

Produced by Stargate, “After the Afterparty” may be a song filled with rebellious adolescent lyrics but it boasts a sweet melody, almost nursery rhyme-like. It’s very catchy. “After the afterparty, we're gonna keep it going / We're gonna rip it up, the neighbours might complain”, sings Brit girl Charli XCX on the chorus. “After the Afterparty” is a manifest youth anthem where the “Fancy” co-star sings about continuing partying wild even after the afterparty and basically until the body can resist. How old is Charli XCX? Oh, she’s only 24. Right…! Keep enjoying your days of nonstop energy, girl! You’ll tell me if you still can hold after the afterparty when you reach age 30, lol.

After 10 streams, I still can’t get the freakin’ chorus of this song out of my head, which means that “After the Afterparty” will be a huge pop hit for Charli XCX. Although, I’m still not sure which of the two choruses I like more; if the vulnerable one, where Charli XCX sings in a tender way, or the chant-y chorus? What a pickle!

Hit or Miss?
