Single Premiere: Louis Tomlinson & Bebe Rexha - "Back To You" / Audio + Review

louis tomlinson back to you cover

So happily surprised by this. I honestly had zero expectations for this song; I thought it was going to be a letdown and that I was going to forget all about it within minutes, but I was so mistaken. Louis Tomlinson’s new single “Back to You” featuring Bebe Rexha is great and could give the One Directioner his first #1 song on iTunes and/or first Top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S. Yep, it’s that good, at least to me.

Back to You”, officially released around the globe on July 21st, although already out in select markets, is the latest single from the EP/full-length studio album Louis Tomlinson is working on with Epic Records. If “Back to You” proves to be a smash hit on the charts (which I foresee will be the case), then there’s no doubt the recording process of Louis’ Epic project will be rushed and we may have it in the last quarter of 2017.

We're on the ground, we're screaming / I don't know how to make it stop / I love it, I hate it, and I can't take it / But I keep on coming back to you”, sings Louis, and Bebe Rexha too, on the chorus of this brand new song. The lyrics are of the story of a boy and a girl who clearly aren’t the best fit, for they drive each other crazy most of the times, but they just can’t live without the other.

Bebe Rexha opens the song singing the first verse, and hers is the first chorus too. Louis doesn’t make his appearance until the second verse. And this certainly was a bit bizarre and dangerous. Let me explain: 1) Overall it feels “Back to You” is more of Bebe Rexha’s song, as if it were Bebe Rexha featuring Louis Tomlinson, and 2) Bebe sings so good the first minute of the song that I kind of felt in the first listen that I wanted to keep hearing just Bebe and I sort of wished Louis’ part never came, lol (but then his part came and he was just fine). But you know what I mean? Bebe slayed the opening just too incredibly. Could she please record a solo version of this and leak it somewhere? She sounded so good. And also, I feel like she must the one who wrote, or co-wrote, “Back to You”; the lyrics are great and I know Bebe's a great songwriter (so it all fits). Very emotional!

Update: Wait a minute. I've just been informed that it was Louis, alongside Nick of Digital Farm Animals (the producer of the song), who actually wrote "Back to You". Bravo to them then!

The combination of Louis and Bebe’s voices worked well, the pop, synth, chill production of “Back to You” flowed really good with the style of the song, and I just can’t find any flaw. I enjoyed this thoroughly. I’ll be replaying a lot!
