Reggaeton Star Nicky Jam Premieres Music Video For The Enrique Iglesias-Featured “Forgiveness”, The English Version Of His Latin Hit “El Perdon”!
Reggaeton singer Nicky Jam scored a monster latin hit this summer with "El Perdon" featuring international pop star Enrique Iglesias. How could I describe it better? Ok, here it is:"Uptown Funk" was to the Hot 100 what "El Perdon" was to all the 'Singles Charts' in Latin America and Spain. Monstrous!
So what what the most obvious strategy to follow by Sony Music? Have Nicky Jam and Enrique Iglesias record an English version of the hit song of course! "Forgiveness" has been playing on Top 40 radios in the US ever since it was released back in late July, but it wasn't until last night, September 1st, that the official music video for the English version of "El Perdon" was premiered on YouTube. Watch below!!!
I'm impressed. English versions of successful Spanish songs have always been super corny. But El Perdon's isn't. It's quite good actually, and for me almost on the same level as the original. I'm very interested to see how well US Top 40 radios accept "Forgiveness", though. Because one thing was Enrique's "Bailando" with Sean Paul, as that was - let's say - "pure", bubbly latin music, and another different one is Nicky Jam's "Forgiveness", as this is reggaeton music and I don't know how welcoming the US general public is towards this particular genre...one that's not very common there.
As for the music video of "Forgiveness", this wasn't shot in a favela like the original, but indoors. Nicky and Enrique will audition to be part of the cast of some sort of musical/play. Will they get the roles?
