Yo Gotti’s “Down In The DM” single is currently on the rise on the charts, so him releasing a remix featuring a relevant artist right now to assure a higher success is no surprise. What does surprise me is that the “relevant artist” Epic Records got for Yo Gotti was Nicki Minaj. Say what!? Nicki hasn’t done many remixes in the latest months - actually, she hasn't released any new music in the latest months, so it’s definitely a surprise that her first piece of new music in a long while is a remix with Yo Gotti – who for those of you that don’t know him, he’s not the most popular rapper around. But anyway… maybe Epic thinks “Down In The DM” can become a really huge song all across America, hence them spending some big coins on getting Nicki.
Yo Gotti is to release a new album called “The Art of Hustle” later this month and you can bet this remix with Nicki Minaj will make an appearance on the tracklist. It will be most likely a last minute addition but it will be there. Epic knows including this remix will make the album sell a few more copies.
As for the remix itself, which premiered online today (Feb. 4), it keeps the same production, the same Yo Gotti verses, but of course there’s some new lyrical content coming from Nicki Minaj’s way. “Down In The DM” may be about getting nasty with some pervert men via social media direct messaging, but Nicki didn’t really care a lot about this. She may have touched the subject somewhat, but she knew the true importance of this new verse, her first new verse in a long while I repeat, was to take a jab at a specific somebody. She used this Yo Gotti remix to refuel her beef with Miley Cyrus! “I said, ‘Miley, what’s good? / I said, ‘Could you pay my bills like O’Reilly? What’s good?’/ I just sit back and observe/ All these n*ggas that I done curved”, raps Ms. Minaj in the “Down In The DM” remix.
