New Song: Rita Ora (ft. Chris Brown) - "Body On Me" [Premiere]

rita ora body on me cover

The new Rita Ora single "Body On Me", a collaboration with Chris Brown, premiered on radios in both the US and UK this Thursday morning (Aug. 6). This means, that unlike "I Will Never Let You Down" and "Poison", the new single of the British songstress will be simultaneously released in the two countries with the highest music sales in the world. Has Roc Nation suddenly increased their faith on Rita Ora without any reason? This is a big move they’re allowing to happen. My thoughts: They think that since the summertime is a period with not so many releases and not so many big hits, they can take advantage of it to try and make Rita finally ‘crack’ the US – since seemingly the competition won’t be so fierce. This must be it, because I doubt they really think “Body On Me” sounds like a hit.

"Body On Me" is an R&B/electronic track, about Rita craving sex with his boo, that although sounds very pretty sung by Rita – can’t deny she’s a great vocalist – and Chris Brown was a good choice for guest, it just doesn’t go anywhere for me. It’s a cute but very safe track in my opinion. What do I foresee for this new single? It’s definitely going to struggle to debut on the Top 5 in the UK, and it won’t make it on the Top 40 on mainstream radio in the US. Might make it on the Top 100 but definitely not Top 40.

It’s going to be sad because Rita is a great talent but just after "I Will Never Let You Down" and all of the drama of its US release cancellation – due to Rita’s split from Calvin Harris – her career has gone a bit downhill. Her next single, after “Poison”, should’ve been something super radio-friendly, and unfortunately "Body On Me" is not. "Body On Me" is giving me “I’m already a diva, look at me” vibes and Rita seriously needs to touch ground because she ain’t one yet. If this new single flops in the UK, then be warned Rita, Jay-Z might start losing his patient.

Hit or Miss?
