New Music: Hilary Duff - "Chasing The Sun" [Full / Premiere]
The time is now! Listen to Hilary Duff's comeback single "Chasing the Sun" from her forthcoming (yet-untitled) comeback and fifth studio album due in stores this Fall via RCA Records. The mid-tempo indie-pop song was co-written by Colbie Caillat, Jason Reeves and Toby Gad and it will be released on iTunes all around the world tomorrow, July 29th. Last week, RCA sent out a press release announcing the new deal between the major label and Hilary, revealing the cover art for "Chasing the Sun", announcing the July 29th digital release and stating that Hilary’s new album would be out in the Fall. You can bet RCA will fully support Hilary with this comeback, as the worldwide hype is REAL.
Review of "Chasing the Sun"
This isn’t a “So Yesterday”, “Wake Up” or “With Love". So if you were only interested in that from a Hilary Duff comeback, then I'd recommend you closing this page immediately. Hilary wanted a new sound for her fifth album. And the fact that she asked Ed Sheeran to write new songs for her already sort of announced a more indie-pop sound from Hilary's comeback. And that’s what it is! "Chasing the Sun" definitely falls into the indie-pop category, but I have the feeling she'll have a couple of real pop hits on her new album. RCA just wouldn't let her pull a Mandy Moore mistake, right?
"Chasing the Sun" is a sunny indie-pop mid-tempo, full of life and positivism. The lyrics tell you to live for the moment, thrive and live as happy as you can. It’s a very short song, (2:42 only), but it's enough time for Hilary to put on display her vulnerable and sweet vocals. The ''oooh, oooh" bits at the end are really heart-melting stuff, as is the almost acapellabridge. Overall, I like "Chasing the Sun" but it certainly isn’t the SUMMER SMASH HIT I was rooting for. Not that I hate the sound of Hilary’s new single (I honestly like this... it put a smile on my immediately), it just that I wanted her to smash real hard on the charts with her comeback. And although I have the faith "Chasing the Sun" will do very well during the first week based on digital sales, I'm afraid this won't have longevity. [More info]
