New Music: Charlie Puth - "One Call Away" [Premiere]

charlie put one call away

Charlie Puth tries to prove to the girl he’s in love with that she doesn’t need a ‘superman’, a Mr. Know-it-all nor a jock as he is the right one for her and he’s only “One Call Away”… so why doesn’t she just give him a ring? Easy, right? Check out a stream of Charlie’s new song “One Call Away” at the bottom of this page!

Mr. Puth scored a smash hit earlier this year thanks to his vocal participation in Wiz Khalifa’s “Furious 7” soundtrack song “See You Again”, and most recently he scored a semi-hit (it’s still growing in airplay, though) with the Meghan Trainor-assisted “Marvin Gaye”, the lead single from his forthcoming debut album “Nine Track Mind”, which will be released on November 6th via Atlantic Records. Precisely this blog post is about Charlie’s first album. “Nine Track Mind” will be up for pre-order on iTunes starting tomorrow, August 21, and if you do pre-order, you will get an instant free download of this new song “One Call Away” – or you can just stream it thanks to VEVO below.

I’m hoping “One Call Away” is just a ‘countdown’ single and not an official one because I’m not liking it much. It’s very basic. It’s got a laidback piano and drums production, a very monotone singing, and a very weak hook. The song kind of improves from the bridge onwards when Charlie Puth finally decides to inject a bit more energy to his singing, but it’s just too late to save the song.

Cute album track, but I was expecting Charlie to slay me with each song from this album and that there wouldn’t be any filler at all, and unfortunately “One Call Away” sounds like an album filler to me.

Hit or Miss?
