Mariah Carey & Rihanna Perform Heartfelt Tributes To Prince On Their Tours [VIDEO]
Although I'm sure you heard, let me remind you of the headline that took music blogs and websites yesterday (April 21) by storm: legendary singer Prince was found dead at his Minnesota home. He was only 57.
Many musicians and singers quickly posted their condolences on social media. However, two of the industry's finest, Mariah Carey and Rihanna, took their condolences to a higher level when they performed at their tour concerts last night. Destiny wanted that the day Prince passed away both Mimi and Riri had scheduled shows of their on-going world tours. Mariah was in Paris with her "The Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour" and Rihanna was in Calgary, Canada with her "The Anti World Tour". Both divas performed tributes to Prince's memory and delivered emotional speeches.
Here's what Mariah said in her speech:
"He's amazing. I didn't know if I was gonna be able to come out here and put on a show and be festive but I said 'I'm in Paris and that's what Prince would actually want me to do!'. Rather than just make everything bleak to turn it into a moment and honour him because he was a friend to me too and he talked me through some times when I really needed somebody. He was an incredible person if you never got to meet him. I'm sure his music has touched every single person in here so lets have a moment of silence if we could please."
And here's what Rihanna shared with her fans in Canada:
"Toda is a very sad day in music. Sad day to music lovers, musicians, fans all over the world. We lost one of the greatest, a legend, Prince. We will miss you. A lot of us started making music and listening of music because of him."
Mariah Carey was this close to cry while singing "One Sweet Day" to Prince in Paris, and Rihanna probably gave one of the best performances ever of "Diamonds" in Calgary. She felt the energy in the air!
