Hear Alvaro Soler’s “El Mismo Sol” Spanglish Remix With Jennifer Lopez! [Premiere]

Good things are happening to Spanish singer-songwriter Alvaro Soler. The Barcelona-based 24-year-old is garnering massive success with his debut single “El Mismo Sol” (means “The same sun” in Spanish), whose infectious folklore-pop production, and easy to sing along catchy chorus has made it to be very well welcomed in non-Spanish speaking markets in Europe such as; The Netherlands, Italy (#1 here), France, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium or Austria. Can’t really remember the last Spanish song to perform this well in Europe outside of Spain. Alvaro Soler should be feeling extremely proud of this feat.

Alvaro’s label is Universal Music and the US subsidiary has recently become interested in “El Mismo Sol”. And although the original Spanish version would be good as is of Latin radios in the country, they have the feeling they have to take a “Bailando” (Enrique Iglesias) approach for it to have some decent performance on major Top 40 radios (in English). That’s why a Spanglish remix of “El Mismo Sol” has been recorded and it premiered online today, August 10th. The official remix features legendary diva Jennifer Lopez. Both Alvaro and J.Lo sing lyrics in Spanish and English. Production remains exactly the same.

Interesting to see Universal is trusting Alvaro at this high scale. He’s a newcomer, and although it’s true “El Mismo Sol” is impressing in Europe in its original Spanish version, for Universal to decide to bring the song to the US and have him collaborate with Jennifer Lopez for an official remix, I don’t know, it all looks a bit too much too soon for me. I have the feeling a major boss at Universal heard “El Mismo Sol”, loved it, and he forced the label to give it a go in the US. So I'm thinking the shot of “El Mismo Sol” to be released in the US was more of a gut feeling of a single senior executive. I mean, just look at Enrique Iglesias. He’s released so many albums in the last decade but the only Spanglish single he’s been allowed to put out in the English-speaking market of the US has been “Bailando”. Enrique’s had to wait so long, but Alvaro Soler gets it on the first time? That’s what seems a bit odd to me. Anyway, congratulations are in order, I am loving the song, the remix is okay (a little bit cheesy maybe, Jennifer could've done better), and hopefully we get to see Alvaro and Jennifer performing this remix live on US television soon. This song screams ‘summertime’ so Alvaro should promote it in the US before the hot season is over. The song might actually perform well on US radio. It’s so addictive even though you don’t speak Spanish, and that’s the magic of the song.

Hit or Miss?
