Gwen Stefani Performs Struggling Single “Make Me Like You” On ‘James Corden’ / Can She Still Save The Song?

When it seemed everybody had forgotten about her latest single “Make Me Like You”, there goes Gwen Stefani and performs the song live on yesterday’s episode of “The Late Late Show with James Corden” on CBS.

Truth is I don’t know what’s happening here, because I personally really love Gwen’s new single (loved it from the first listen), but for some unknown reason to me - the song is not “awful” y’all - “Make Me Like You” isn’t connecting with the American audience; its presence on radio is really struggling and the digital sales on iTunes are really disappointing. As of this post, and already hours after the performance on “The Late Late Show”, “Make Me Like You” sits at #85 on iTunes. (Ouch)

Could it be that Gwen’s label made a mistake to release this super-fun, super-catchy, super-feel-good song in February when perhaps, in view of the characteristics of the song, they should’ve waited till the summer? I’m going to be super sad if “Make Me Like You” ends up being a gigantic flop for Gwen and/or is quickly sent to the side by a “sudden” new single. Come on! The song is good and 100% GWEN STEFANI. What’s happening!?

So Gwen performed “Make Me Like You” on “The Late Late Show with James Corden” last night and keeping it real - as I always do - I have to say that this performance was much better than what she did on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” a couple of weeks ago. This time Gwen looked more confortable on stage, she really owned the performance, and her vocals were GREAT - within the already-known limits of her (unique) range. So yeah, by far the best performance of “Make Me Like You” to date. But, is there room for improvement? You bet. For instance, I really think Gwen should think of adding a little more “excitement” to her “Make Me Like You” TV performances. Like maybe, as a suggestion, she could get down, and join the studio crowd for the last chorus for a big flashmob or a big sing-along with confetti coming off from the ceiling. I’m sure the crowd will up for it considering in the two TV performances “Make Me Like You” has got thus far, the crowds have been super into the song.

Does "MMLY" still have a chance?
