And just like that CC has returned to our musical lives.

Yesterday (Jan. 13) a lot of Ciara-ness happened. First, AllAccess.com unexpectedly listed in the afternoon a new Ciara single called "I Bet" as ready for impact on urban radio on January 27th. Second, a couple of hours later, Epic Records unveiled the official artwork of “I Bet” online – then making the ‘lead single coming very soon’ news official. And third, before midnight, Ciara gave Billboard.com the world exclusive stream of “I Bet” for everyone to listen before the previously-announced radio release date. Hold on, don’t need to go to Billboard. We also have a stream for you below!

And just like that she's back people. We all knew she was working on her sixth album (and follow-up to 2013's "Ciara"), but there was no indication or tiny hint that the new single was this ready for release. I don't know why but I think everyone had begun to assume that the new single and album would arrive close to the summer - and definitely not in the first month of the year. Anyhow, Ciara has surprised us!

"I Bet" song review

Sonically, it sounds like a “Never Ever Part. 2”, and I ain’t mad. I’m really digging this new Ciara song. If she had released one of her uptempo 'bangers' you know this would have flopped. But "Body Party" proved she still can get hits if she records nice slow-tempos.

Produced by Harmony Samuels and featuring background adlibs by co-writer Theron Thomas of Rock City, "I Bet" is an R&B slow jam where Ciara sings about standing for herself as a woman and telling off an ex-boyfriend for not appreciating her.

Is the song supposed to be autobiographical? According to Ciara, no. “I imagine this song ('I Bet') will be very meaningful for a lot of people. It is much bigger than any one person's experience”, she told Billboard. However, this line; "You acting like you upgraded me, but I upgraded you… You took advantage, I can't understand it" makes it pretty clear to me that there is something autobiographical in “I Bet”.

Ciara is clearly slamming her ex-fiancé rapper Future in the song. They got engaged in late 2013, in May 2014 Ciara had baby Future, and later in the year they announced their split. Word in the street has it the rapper was unfaithful to Ciara with plenty of other women; hence the quoted song line above and the 'rage' vibes in it.
